BLADING

Hey, thanx 4 stopping by. So you wanna know how to do some tricks like the pros., well you came to the right place! Here I'll give you tips and info on how to do some of the tricks that you've only dreamt of. I stopped off at a web page that taught me how to do fishbrians, jumps, and fwackwards about 2 weeks ago and now I'm flying. The most important thing 4 you to remember is that anyone can do this... you just have to think you can. Once you think you can there's no stopping you. This may not be totally true but I believe that the biggest reason why sk8ters can't pull off their tricks is 'cause they don't think they can.  So let's get on with it!

First off  I think it's important you gain confidence in yourself, that's why i'm gonna give you instructions to this trick first. I'm not exactly sure what it's called but i'll try to explain it as best I can. Even the novice of sk8ters can do this trick if they have confidence.

1. First off I want you to gain some speed. Go at a medium speed but make sure there's no rocks or stuff on the street cause that could really mess you up.

2. If you have a brake on your skate use the opposite foot (the one without the brake) : While skating forwards lift your foot up at a 45 degree angle so that only the back wheel is rolling on the ground.

3.If you have a brake on one skate use that skate to do this: i want you to put your weight on the first wheel only and lift up the back of your skate so that the rest of the wheels aren't touching the ground. (your skate should be at a 45 degree angle)

4. Now  you should be skating forwards only on your front wheel (on one skate and back wheel (on the other skate).

Tip: This trick is much easier when you combine # 2 & 3. Once you can do it at the same time then it's impossible to forget.

Tip: Make sure the skate which you are on your back wheel goes first!

I'll try to get a picture of it up soon!

Funky Skating

Funky skating refers to a range of fluid movements that give the impression of effortless circles, spirals, forwards to backwards transitions, weight movements and glides. Funky skating, although not aggressive, is a good indication of a skater's competence. If you master funky skating you naturally learn perfect balance that makes learning the most difficult moves easy.

Funky skating is not restricted to those skaters with rubber legs, double joints and three legs. Funky skating just requires a few transitional moves to be learnt and mastered to the extent that it becomes effortless.

The Moonwalk

(Must master going backwards before attempting this trick)

Find a smooth surface and roll backwards at a jogging pace. Place your weight on one leg and start a natural forward walking action. You should continue to roll backwards despite your forwards walking action. You will probably lose balance a few times. To get funky, you need to swing your arms, exaggerating the forwards walking action. Swinging your shoulders and flicking your boots backwards can help as well. Kelly-Anne Green (Melbourne) insists that this move must be performed whilst wearing black wrap-around sunglasses for extra cool.

Once you've mastered this action try turning whilst going backwards. The backwards moonwalk is an excellent replacement for the backwards crossover turn. When turning, momentum (speed) can be built using the moonwalk.

Braking techniques

The 'T' stop or 'Mr T stop'

Balance on your left leg at walking pace. Drag your right foot behind you at right angles to the left legs direction of travel. This trick will probably make you rotate to the right a bit so lean to the left as a counter balance.

Backwards Powerslide

Roll backwards at jogging pace. Stretch one leg out behind you at right angles to the direction of travel. Use all four wheels as a brake by allowing them to slide against the pavement. You will require a fairly low angle in order for the wheels to slide smoothly.

Spinning Powerslide

Spin from forwards to backwards clockwise. The spin should rotate around your left foot, with your right leg extended until you are in a backwards powerslide. As you develop confidence, the action will become a very effective way to brake quickly at reasonable high speed.

Jumping techniques

Simple Jump

The simple jump is an often hard to master trick for beginners. A few tips follow:

Jump up, not forwards. Distance is a factor of speed and height, unlike running when angle is important; Begin by jumping flat or imaginary objects first as you are less likely to hurt yourself; Gradually increase the size of objects you jump as you may not know your capabilities; Don't attempt large objects when tired;

Jumping is performed with the upper body as much as it is with the legs. Take the weight of your body off your legs by throwing your arms and upper body upwards as your legs kick in with the power; If you are going to crash, try and land forwards, allowing your knee pads and wrist guards to disperse the shock of your fall.

180 degree jump

Backwards must be mastered before attempting this trick. When jumping rotate your upper body, including your arms in the direction of your desired rotation. Tilt your head in the direction of rotation also. Allow your body to rotate and your legs will follow. When landing the jump continue to turn slightly in the direction of your rotation to maintain balance. Over time you will gradually learn to land with more precision.

The 360 degree jump or 'helicopter'/'heli

The heli requires good aerial awareness and some spring in your legs. Begin practicing 360 degree rotations on grass and when confident have a go on skates. Roll forwards at jogging pace. Prepare for the jump with a smooth crouch and launch clockwise, tilting your upper body and head in the direction of rotation. Continue tilting your upper body, arms and head in the direction of rotation until you are ready to stop rotating. It is important to remain vertical so don't lean forwards or backwards. Do not rotate with your legs. Let your legs follow your upper body. When landing the jump, aim your skates in the direction of rotation so that you turn out of the jump instead of twisting your body.

Fwackwards

Fwackwards is an complicated way of propelling yourself on skates. It involves a number of 180 degree jumps in fast succession from forwards to backwards and back again. Fwackwards is extremely draining, takes great stomach strength and aerial awareness. Begin rolling forwards at walking pace. Perform a 180 degree jump counter clockwise. Land the jump with both feet parallel, using the right hand edge to jump again. This time your jump should be clockwise returning you to your original position. These two jumps are performed again and again. Once comfortable with this trick, you will be able to hop smoothly and continously from forwards to backwards.

Ambidextrous Fwackwards

Fwackwards using both edges of your skates, jumping both clockwise and anticlockwise from either backwards or forwards.
